Aim
To inspire social awareness through documentary photography, the bursary will offer working photojournalists the opportunity to explore a topic which addresses an issue or issues that are Canadian in scope and relevancy at home or abroad. Up to three Canadian photojournalists may be eligible for a bursary up to $15,000 each, based on the scope and merit of their proposal, to pursue a project over the course of no more than one year. Upon completion, the project will be featured in a national newspaper or magazine and featured on our website.
The Theme
Applicants are required to propose a project which will investigate and document political, economic, social, environmental or cultural issues which impact Canadians here, or in turn explore Canadian involvement in programs and initiatives of global reach and impact outside our geographical boundaries. Judged by a panel of senior photographers and editors from across Canada, the successful fellow will have provided a written explanation of why the story is relevant and newsworthy, along with details describing the feasibility and scale of the project.
