The Terms and Conditions
The fellowship is open only to professional photojournalists, and applicants must provide proof of their professional standing (freelancers are required to provide a letter of sponsorship from a bonafide mainstream newspaper, magazine or wire service). The application package must include the following:
a. a 300 word proposal, english or french, explaining the project and why it is newsworthy and relevant;
b. a portfolio on CD ROM that includes recent work;
b. a budget outlining how the funds will be spent; and
c. proof of professional standing.
The fellows have up to a year to complete and submit their project. The stories will be serious and informed, and will be a thorough examination of an issue that has important relevance to Canada, at the local, national or international level. The project may be photographed in either color or black and white, on film or digitally. A completed project includes the final edited work on CD ROM (in proper sequence and in JPEG format), a written synopsis of the story and details of expenditure. All images must be properly captioned.
Half the funds will be issued to the winners at the start of the project, and the balance issued upon completion of the project. Any unused funds must be reimbursed to the foundation.
The photographers retain the long-term rights to the negatives or raw files, and must be prepared to deliver a public presentation of their project. The CFDP has exclusive rights to all images in the completed project. All winners will be featured on the CFDP website, and the complete projects published in a mainstream national publication. Stories completed in french will be published in a french publication.
The CFDP will be the sole sponsor of the project. Under no circumstances will the photographers be allowed to accept funding or sponsorship from any other source.
Deadline
Deadline for application will be April 01 of each year. The winners will be notified by August 01, and have until August 01 the following year to submit the completed project. There will be no extension granted on the deadline.
